Sokcho, Gangwon-do: A Great Destination for Enjoying a Winter Scenery

Yeongnangho Lake’s “Story Bicycle”

Sokcho is famous not only for its beautiful sea, but also for its lagoons that are adjacent to the sea, which are called Yeongnangho and Cheongchoho Lakes. It is good to start your itinerary with a tour around this area, which is surrounded by stunning views. In particular, at Yeongnangho Lake, you can enjoy “Story Bicycle,” an experience program that allows you to ride along the lake on an electric bike. A cultural heritage commentator will drive the bicycle and give comments on the history and legend of the tourist spots around Yeongnangho Lake. The Beombawi Rock, one of Sokcho’s eight scenic attractions and the Ulsanbawi Rock, one of the country’s scenic views, is located on the shore of Yeongnangho Lake. These tourist spots are introduced with the legendary story of yellow and blue dragons. The “Story Bicycle” program is available in two courses: a 25-min course that allows you to tour around Bogwangsa Temple and the Chunghonbi Monument and a 1-hr course that allows you to travel around the trail along Yeongnangho Lake.

Cheoksan Hot Spring

After touring around Yeongnangho Lake, why don’t you head to the Cheoksan Hot Spring, which is the perfect place to stay in for a while as you relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Seoraksan Mountain. Built in 1985, it is famous for a hot spring water that gushes out from underground. As the temperature of this natural spring water is around 50℃, it doesn’t require a reheating process, which keeps the beneficial ingredients in the water in its original state. Containing radon, the Cheoksan Hot Spring’s water is known to be beneficial for people with skin diseases, such as atopy, and it also makes your skin feel soft and smooth. It is also interesting that gargling your mouth with this water can clean your teeth because of the fluoride that it contains. The outdoor spa area for men offers a great view of a pine forest and the Seoraksan Mountain while the one for women features a well-organized wooden space with a pavilion. You can enjoy relaxing and tranquil moments in this place. A family room is also available for people who are accompanied by a loved one or their families. The family room is equipped with a large bathtub, which enables you to enjoy a more private and relaxing spa experience. In the annex, there are additional facilities such as a Korean-style dry sauna, a service area, and other facilities. A foot spa is also available on weekends.
