Alpensia Ski Jumping Center, A PyeongChang 2018 Venue, and Namiseom Island in Chuncheon

Pyeongchang, a county in Gangwon Province, South Korea, is one of the venues of PyeongChang 2018. The province is loved by Koreans for its beautiful natural scenery. Let us take a trip to Alpensia Ski Jumping Center to witness an exciting game where players jump from ski-jumping ramps and to Namiseom Island where you can enjoy a walk or a bicycle ride in the woods.

Alpensia Ski-Jumping Ramp in Pyeongchang

The Alpensia Ski-Jumping Ramp built for PyeongChang 2018 is erected at 930 m above the sea level. Visitors can take a first-hand look at the ski-jumping ramp through two types of programs: a general tour program and a special tour program. While the former allows visitors to look around the observatory only after arriving there via a mono rail, the latter enables visitors to take a look at the K98 ski-jumping hill as well. Once you stand on the 90 m tall jump lounge after going up from the tower by taking an elevator, you would probably think that it is higher than you expected. From the waiting room for players, you will pass through a path called Sky Road, which will lead you to a place where you can look down on the alpine mountains of Pyeongchang spread out endlessly like a folding screen. Taking a moment to relax over a cup of coffee at the observatory equipped with an outdoor deck and a café is highly recommended. If you visit early in the morning, you can also watch the athletes train.
Location: Alpensia Resort, 325, Solbong-ro, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do

Namiseom Island in Chuncheon

Namiseom Island is a tiny half-moon–shaped island that was formed as a result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam, forming a boundary between Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, and Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do. You can get into the island in two ways: ferry or zip line. Riding a bicycle to look around the island is recommended. Going on a slow run through the forests is a great way to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the island. Right now is the perfect time for you to appreciate the colorful foliage leaves in the island; in particular, Songpa Ginkgo Tree Lane is a must-visit spot to enjoy the splendor of the vivid yellow ginkgo leaves. The said place has appeared in many movies, dramas, commercials, and other media promotions and is the most popular spot in Namiseom during the autumn season. Ginkgo trees are beautiful when their leaves turn yellow, but the leaves are also stunning when they are scattered on the road like a yellow carpet.
