Suncheonman Bay National Garden & Wetland Reserve

Suncheonman Bay National Garden & Wetland Reserve
순천만국가정원 & 순천만 습지

Suncheonman Bay National Garden was built in the Suncheon Dosa-dong area solely to protect the Suncheonman Bay Wetland Reserve. In the 1.1 million square meter gardens, 79,000 trees of 505 different kinds and 150,000 plants of 113 different kinds were planted. The garden trail course offers natural shade provided by 50,000 hackberry and zelkova trees. With a prior reservation you can get a cultural commentary service in English, Japanese or Chinese.

In the Suncheonman herbarium, which is filled with beautiful flowers and trees, is a traditional Korean medicine experience center with Hanok houses here and there. Around a wide courtyard there's a healing hall, an exhibition hall, a gift hall, a healing cafe and a medical botanical garden.

In the healing hall there is a system that allows visitors to easily check their body condition. The physical constitution is checked with the shape of the fingerprint and hand temperature. A machine can check the condition of the five main internal organs. Blood pressure and body components can also be checked. Based on the results, people can learn about their current health status. In addition, a specialist in traditional Korean medicine helps to analyze the data and provides advice on body type-specific foods, stress relief and lifestyle habits. What is also attractive for people is that they provide individual medicinal tea and prescriptions. The name says it all: Custom Prescription Apothecary. The prescribed medicine can be purchased right there. Every weekend, a sommelier offers tea made with seasonal flowers, while a “Tea Confectionary Experience” provides the perfect snacks.

Tranquility provided by nature

The most popular program by far is the foot bath. It is provided at the Healing Hall in the midst of a huge garden and relaxes tense feet. Sitting in the backyard with your feet soaking in traditional Korean medicine gets rid of stress in no time. In addition to foot baths, you can get a foot massage that helps stress relief and blood circulation or other things like an aromatherapy experience. In the yard, there are traditional games for everybody and a class that teaches how to make traditional Korean medicine soap.

If you want to learn more about traditional Korean medicine, you should stop by the Exhibition Hall. There, you can see various medical herbs and take photos in front of a traditional medical facility. Now that you know more about medicine, you can select medicine that matches your physiology and make beautiful lucky sachets. It is great for when you have a light headache or feel depressed. The herbal garden in the back is also good to take a walk in. The scent of angelica root and Chinese pepper in the air tickles the tip of your nose.
With your ticket you can also visit the Suncheonman Bay Wetland Reserve. It is one of the world's five greatest coastal wetlands. Underneath the wooden deck that leads through a huge reed field there are countless living and moving organisms. Gobies running over the mud flat, the sound of reeds rocked by the wind, plovers flapping their wings: the wetland is full of life. Open your mind and walk along the wetland trail, climb the low mountain path that leads to the observatory, and you will reach the point of wellness. To be comforted by nature and find peace and health, that's the greatest happiness you can find at the Suncheonman Bay Wetland Reserve.

Suncheonman Bay Wetland Reserve

The 75㎢ wetland reserve is one of the five greatest coastal wetlands in the world. Especially spectacular is watching the sunset and migratory birds from the observatory. One of the prides is the largest reed field in the country, which is formed like a giant S. It is also home to 11 types of migratory birds, including the hooded crane, the white-naped crane and the stork, all of which are natural monuments. Suncheonman Bay Wetland Reserve is known to contain the most rare bird species worldwide, which is why visitors find their way to Suncheon non-stop.
